International Orange Lyrics

My copy of Firewater’s latest album, International Orange, sadly lacked the fun liner notes which are the only reason to ever buy physical over digital. As a result, it lacked the lyrics, and the internet’s been uncharacteristically crap at remedying this, so I typed them up myself.

Not pretending to own this, may have mistakes which are all my fault, all lyrics (c) Tod A/Firewater etc. Buy the album, it’s not bad.

Firewater – A Little Revolution lyrics

Got no job,
Got no cash,
Going nowhere
And going fast.
This whole deal
It’s just no good
Gonna get out
While the getting’s good
Stuck in the tunnel and I’m looking for the light
It seems like everybody’s itching for a fight
Well we don’t wanna cause no fuss
Yeah, we just want a little revolution
We don’t wanna spill no blood
Yeah, we just need a little revolution

Got no chance
Got no fun
Not so cool
When you’re young
Time is money
And money’s power
They got theirs
What about ours?
See the riots on the TV every day
Sometimes it’s looking like there ain’t another day
Well we don’t wanna cause no fuss
Yeah, we just want a little revolution
We don’t wanna spill no blood
Yeah, we just need a little revolution
We don’t wanna wreck this town
Yeah, we just want a little revolution
We don’t wanna burn it down
Yeah, we just need a little revolution

You’ll never know what it’s like standing in my shoes
But if you corner me, you’re gonna find a fighter
Your cameras gazing down from cold surveillance towers
But in our darkest hours, it’s only getting brighter
Fires burning higher…

Well we don’t wanna cause no fuss
Yeah, we just want a little revolution
We don’t wanna spill no blood
Yeah, we just need a little revolution
We don’t wanna wreck this town
Yeah, we just want a little revolution
We don’t wanna burn it down
Yeah, we just need a little revolution

Firewater – Glitter Days lyrics

Your day is a train wreck
Your night is a prison full of ghosts
The things that will kill you are always the ones you love the most

My life is a toothache
My head is a suitcase full of dust
It’s tough to trust anyone when there’s no one you can trust

But our glitter days are coming soon,
Temptation dangles like a noose of gold
Though all of the love we share is like static on the radio

Rains falling like teardrops
Can’t you feel the winter in your throat
Cold cash in the freezer and a bottle in your coat

Look at the cracks in the mirror
Fractures are reflected in your face
Like lines on a road map to a cold and lonely place

But our glitter days are coming soon,
Temptation dangles like a noose of gold
Though all of the love we share is like static on the radio
Radio…

Words empty as churches
Plans are broken bottles on the beach
The future we’re looking for is still so far out of reach

Script lying unwritten
Maybe we’ll be forgiven in the end
Until then, this mercy tender is all we’ve got to spend

But our glitter days are coming soon,
Temptation dangles like a noose of gold
Though all of the love we share
Is like static on the radio
Radio…

Firewater – Dead Man’s Boots lyrics

Attention!
Now hear this!
This party will now come to order!
This is a reading of the rules…

Rule number one,
Everybody drop your gun.
It can never be a funeral when you’re in your birthday suit,
Rule number two,
Everybody got the news
No matter what you do
You’re gonna be dancing in a dead man’s… boots.

Rule number three,
This is a meeting of the orange party
Yeah we’re suckin’ the forbidden, suckin’ the forbidden fruit
Rule number four,
Gotta get up off the floor
No matter what you do
You’re gonna be dancing in a dead man’s… boots.

Rule number five,
Nobody gets out alive
But everybody here gonna live it up until we die
Rule number six,
Everybody needs some kicks
No matter what you do
You’re gonna be dancing in a dead man’s… boots.

Firewater – Coming Up From The Underground lyrics

Well we got the orange, and you got the green
(coming up from the underground)
Firewater is down, if you know what I mean
(coming up from the underground)

Well you can shut us up, but you can’t shut us down
‘cause we’re coming up
From the underground

You can chop down the tree but you can’t kill the seed
(coming up from the underground)
A few molotov cocktails are all that we need
(coming up from the underground)

You can lock us up, but you can’t lock us down
‘cause we’re coming up
From the underground

And here we come again…
Here we come again…

We user motorbike helmets to cover our heads
(coming up from the underground)
The ideas you’re flogging are already dead
(coming up from the underground)

You can beat us up, but you can’t beat us down
‘cause we’re coming up
From the underground

And here we come again…
Here we come again…
And again
And again

We’re gonna get back up when you knock us down
Cause we’re coming up
From the underground

Firewater – The Monkey Song lyrics

Right now, by the miracle of recording, we’re going to go to a happy song
A song that they televised nationwide – we had so many requests for them to do it again that that’s exactly what they did
So right now, by the miracle of recording,
Sing the song that song that probably you haven’t heard before
But I’m sure after you hear it this time, you’ll want to be hearing it again
It’s the Monkey Song!

It ain’t the crutches, it’s the limp.
Not what you lost, it’s the things you couldn’t find
Don’t blame the hooker, charge the pimp
Nothing gets stolen, it’s just stuff you leave behind
It ain’t really the darkness that you curse
But how it feels when the sun refuse to shine
It’s not the future that you fear
But more the feeling that the past is gonna catch you in the hand

So hands up if you wanna do it again (do it again)
Say right now, wanna do it again, do it again?
Monkey girl
I wanna be your monkey man
Monkey girl
I wanna be your monkey man
Let’s do it again (do it again)
Let’s do it again (do it again)
Let’s do it again (do it again)
(it’s the monkey song)

It ain’t the needle… it’s the pricks
You could take the lies, but for the smiles they hide behind
Don’t mind the bottles, just the bricks,
A man is just a monkey in a suit and tie
It ain’t the complex, it’s the cure
Ain’t no religion, just a hole to hide inside
Don’t mind the fire, but how it burns
And this is not the way, the way you would have wanted things to end

So hands up if you wanna do it again (do it again)
Say right now, wanna do it again, do it again?
Monkey girl
I wanna be your monkey man
Monkey girl
I wanna be your monkey man (do it again)
Monkey girl
I wanna be your monkey man (monkey man)
Monkey girl
I wanna be your monkey man
Let’s do it again (do it again)
Let’s do it again (do it again)
Let’s do it again (do it again)
(it’s the monkey song)

And all the people said – amen! Thank you girls, that’s great. They’ll sing again for us in just a moment, and that’s gonna be, that’s gonna be something special, what’re they gonna sing next?

Firewater – Ex-Millionaire Mambo lyrics

Drunk as the Pope on a dead afternoon
Minding your business when somebody burns a bank
It’s funny how money can go up in smoke
Everyone scarpered and nobody left to thank

Poor little pigs, hear how they squeal
Back up against the wall – how does it feel?
MAMBO!

Nothing but pigeons in your Swiss account
It’s tough to be chic when you live in a cardboard box
And the radio playing the same old bad news
Jingles remind you your savings are in your socks

Poor little ship, see how it sinks
Being poor is a bore, but damn it, what did you think?
MAMBO!

Nobody knows when you when you’re down and out
Is it surprising the devil invented revenge?
Ah, but every good captain goes down with the ship
You paid for the movie, you might as well see the end

Poor little rats, lost on the sea
It’s another case of better you than me
MAMBO!

Firewater – Feeling No Pain lyrics

Woke up at quarter to four
And I took my change off of the floor
Then I packed my suitcase with a brand new face
And threw myself out the door
Too many dues to pay
And it was raining rusty nails on a sunny day
So I wrote a postcard to the wrecking yard
Saying “I won’t be coming in today”
I’m alright
Yeah, I’m okay
Well I roll into town on a tumbleweed, and I’ll be blowing on the breeze tonight
Feeling no pain

No, I’ll never be no billionaire
And you might not believe it, but I just don’t care
I don’t give a goddamn about the green I make
As long as nobody takes my cake
I gets a god-damn down sometime
I like to roll down the windows and I take a drive
Feel the breeze with a bottle up between my knees
Til it gets tough to see the lines
I’m alright
I said, I’m okay
So get off my back with your heart attacks, ‘cause there ain’t an ambulance in sight
And I’m feeling no pain

I hate every cop in this town
Always throwing their weight around
Sometimes it’s like I got a sign taped to my back,
Saying “kick this poor boy around”
I live on beer and cigarettes
It hasn’t seemed to kill me yet
But when that moment comes I won’t be afraid
Just one less clown in this parade
I’m alright
Yeah, I’m okay
And I got my own personal philosophy
I won’t mess with you if you don’t mess with me
And I don’t wanna fight, I got nothing to gain
And I’ve been all over this whole world, from the hurricane to the tilt-a-whirl
And I’m feeling no pain
Feeling no pain
I’m feeling no pain.

Firewater – Strange Life lyrics

It’s been a strange night
Radio Istanbul and a seasick flight
And such a cold day
So many empty voices with important things to say
Ah, but you smile
‘Cause you know you won’t be hanging for the trial
They’ll have to judge you in absentia for a while
And you [indecipherable] touches down
In a new town
It’s been a strange life

It’s been a bad year
Far too many Xs in the atmosphere
Just like a dull knife
You never know when you’re gonna feel the bite
Ah, but you laugh
The immigration man he wants your autograph
And you catch your sad reflection in the glass
But you wash it from your memory like a stain
In a slow drain
It’s been a strange life

Strange life…

It’s been a strange life
Stumbling up the stairs and looking for the light
There are no just laws
You know one man’s battle is another’s lost cause
Ah, but you grin
‘Cause there’s a sense of something coming on the wind
And you really can’t wait for it to begin
And you’re just another stranger in a strange town
As you touch down.
It’s been a strange life…

Firewater – Nowhere To Be Found lyrics

I had a stone in my shoe,
I had a stone in my shoe
But when they chop off your hands, no there ain’t an awful lot you an do

I had a price on my head
I had a price on my head
But they say that when you’re born worthless
You’re worth even less when you’re dead

But now I’m nowhere to be found
Yeah, now I’m nowhere to be found

She had a hole in her heart
She had a hole in her heart
Cause they say that bullets can kill you
But it’s love that will rip you apart

She put a knife in my back
She put a knife in my back
It’s a fact that one clean escape
Is worth infinite plans of attack

But now she’s nowhere to be found
I said, now she’s nowhere to be found
She’s flying high, and someday she’ll come down
But for now, she’s nowhere to be found

We had a fire in our soul
We had a fire in our soul
But we had to cancel the riot
No more Molotov cocktails to throw

And now we’re nowhere to be found
Yeah, now we’re nowhere to be found
Moon’s on the rise, the night is coming down
When you look around, we’re nowhere to be found
Nowhere to be found

Yeah, now we’re nowhere to be found
We’re not really gone, we just went underground
We’re wide awake, and we’re nowhere to be found
Nowhere to be found

Firewater – Tropical Depression lyrics

Once upon a time
I was doing double nickels on the dime
Dreaming of a tropical and lazy clime
But I couldn’t let go

I came, I saw, I tried
In the capital of greed and empty pride
You know I kept my nature locked so far inside
Til I had to let go.

The doctor said I had tropical depression
And the pressure’s dropping now
But you know tropical depression
Never brings me down

I really couldn’t take the cold, the grey
The slow execution of the days
That dragged along with every tick of the clock
That watched me die to put a check in the box

It seemed that I was always cold and low on cash
I had to make a bold decision fast
The moment I had stolen it had passed
Many moons ago

They diagnosed me with tropical depression
All the palm trees waving round
But you know tropical depression
Well it never brings me down

Storm waters washing all my worries out the door
The wind always knows which way to blow…

Maybe you’re dreaming of the sun, the sand, the sin
And the see your wrinkled skin from high above
As you’re descending from the black and angry cloud
Into a different day

HST says the race goes not to the swift nor the battle to the strong
But only to those who can fake their way along
And see the time to get out of the way

Well now you know I got tropical depression
As the waves begin to pound
When you got tropical depression
Well you’re nowhere to be found

I got tropical depression
As the rain runs down my back
They say it’s looking like tropical depression
And I’m never going back

Firewater – The Bonney Anne lyrics

The city cries tonight
Streets are wet with tears
I’ve walked along these shores
Thirty-seven years

My eyes are drowned tonight
Throat cannot sing
I drift into a monsoon sky
On troubled wings

Aboard the Bonney Anne
Aboard the Bonney Anne

You lie alone tonight
In a bed of wood
Just try to dream about
Days that were good

The moon you knew is rising behind
The sweet smoke of death
Aboard the Bonney Anne tonight
I can feel your breath

Aboard the Bonney Anne
Aboard the Bonney Anne
Aboard the Bonney Anne

After all this cheap suspense
And torture by degrees
The rain comes down like a reminder
Of everything that’s free

We wander through this world
Of misery and shame
Maybe we’ll meet someday
Wrapped in sheets of rain

Aboard the Bonney Anne
Aboard the Bonney Anne
Aboard the Bonney Anne

Hmm, I can’t find out what that indecipherable part in “Strange Life” is for the life of me…it sounds something like “bastard, nigh-old soul”.
